Lead mechanic, works under limited supervision to perform skilled mechanical repairs and maintenance on heavy diesel construction and support equipment.To assist in the scheduling of vehicle servicing and procurement of parts and supplies: and to do related work as required. Coordinates the work of other maintenance personnel; diagnoses mechanical problems and performs complex mechanical repairs on heavy diesel construction equipment including but not limited to engine overhauling,drivetrains, hydraulics and all other components associated with heavy diesel road construction equipment. Position also requires mantaining records of repairs and maintenance work; contacts parts dealers for necessary parts and supplies; makes emergency repairs to vehicles and equipment; diagnose and trouble shoot mechanical defects and make appropriate repairs, skillfully and efficiently repair and overhaul equipment, use standard tools and equipment; accurately estimate time and materials for repair jobs; keep accurate records and parts inventories.
